GMK Medical Centre

In Western Kenya where The Nasio Trust operates, healthcare provisions by the government are not enough to meet the needs of people. Organisations like The Nasio Trust are vital for meeting these healthcare gaps and providing cheap yet accessible medical services to a growing rural population.

The need for a medical centre

In November of 2013 a young boy called Livingstone tragically lost his life while being carried by his mother on the 10 mile route to the nearest hospital. He was just 5 years old. The wake of this tragedy exposed just how vulnerable people are when access to medical care is so difficult. You can read Livingstone’s full story here.

In June 2016 we completed the building of the George Mudenyo Kadima Medical Centre.

The GMK Medical Centre

The GMK Medical Centre offers access to both free and paid healthcare in the heart of Musanda. Any income generated goes back into the project to break the reliance on charity and work to end the cycle of poverty. With 32 members on the staff, the medical centre has treated over 60,000 patients since its opening in 2016. It offers the following services:

  • Maternal and Child Health (MCH)
  • HIV testing and counselling services (HTS)
  • Laboratory Services
  • Anti and post-natal services
  • Pharmacist
  • Treatment of general illnesses
  • Pediatrics
  • Community Health Outreach Services

We still need your help to staff and equip the centre to capacity, click here now to read more about our medical appeal.

"The Nasio Trust has helped me possess what I never had. I pray to God that he may bless our sponsors abundantly for their good heart. I thank The Nasio Trust for their great determination."

Publishing in Africa at the London Book Fair By Katie Isbester

In further support of the Nasio Trust’s Library appeal, Katie Isbester talks about her recent trip to the London Book Fair and a fortuitous discovery!

I didn’t mean to go to the talk. There were some 30,000 people at the London Book Fair and I was supposed to meet at least a few of them. Instead I found myself going to a talk on publishing in Africa because of Nasio Trust. I knew it was trying to build a library, the first of its kind in Western Kenya, and I was rather curious.
