Fund a Volunteer Trip for Your Students Through the Turing Scheme
June 2025

Partner with The Nasio Trust to offer your students a life-changing experience in Kenya, funded by the UK Government.

What is the Turing Scheme?

The Turing Scheme is the UK Government’s global mobility programme that funds international experiences for students. It offers grants to schools, colleges, and universities so young people can take part in short-term educational placements abroad. The scheme covers travel, living costs, accommodation, and provides additional support for disadvantaged students.

Placements usually last between 10 days and 3 weeks and must have clear educational and developmental outcomes.

With The Nasio Trust, your students can use this funding to volunteer in rural Kenya, taking part in safe, structured projects that build global awareness and real-world skills. We’ll work with you to design a trip that meets these requirements while ensuring it is safe, structured, and impactful.

This means your pupils can experience an unforgettable volunteering trip in rural Kenya with The Nasio Trust—without the financial barriers that often prevent participation.

How Your Students Will Make a Difference

Students travel as volunteers, working alongside our experienced Kenyan team on projects that make a visible impact while also linking to curriculum goals.

On a typical trip, students may build homes for vulnerable families, support teaching in local schools, deliver peer-to-peer health and life skills sessions, assist with nutrition and hygiene outreach, and learn about sustainable farming and local culture.

These activities are not just about volunteering—they are immersive learning experiences. Pupils gain teamwork, confidence, leadership, and a deeper understanding of global issues, all while forming connections across cultures.

Proven Success

In 2024, we helped an Oxfordshire school secure £42,000 of Turing funding for a two-week trip to Kenya. We supported their application from start to finish—and we’ll do the same for you.

Timeline for Trips Starting September 2026

Planning ahead is key to a successful application. Here’s what the journey looks like:

  • Sept–Oct 2025: Introductory calls with interested schools and universities
  • Oct Half-Term 2025: Confirm interest and begin project planning
  • Jan 2026: Finalise and co-draft your Turing application with our team
  • Feb 2026: Application submitted
  • May–June 2026: Funding decisions announced
  • Sept 2026 – August 2027: Approved trips take place

We encourage schools and universities to get in touch early so we can tailor the programme and prepare the strongest possible application.

Understanding The Daily Realities of Poverty

The Nasio Trust has once again partnered with Evidence for Development (EfD), a UK based research organisation, to understand how families in Buchirinya, a village near Musanda where Nasio works, are coping with the daily realities of poverty.

Our latest survey from 2025 revisits the same households surveyed in 2024, using the Individual Household Method (IHM), a unique method that allows practitioners to gain an indepth perspective into rural livelihoods.

Kennington and Musanda: A Historic Twinning that Bridges Two Continents

On 11 October, something extraordinary happened. The village of Kennington in Oxfordshire officially twinned with Musanda in western Kenya the heart of The Nasio Trust’s community work.

This is the first ever twinning between a village in Oxfordshire and a village in Kenya, and it marks a milestone in our shared story of friendship, compassion, and collaboration.
