Agricultural yields dropped by 34% in Kenya due to climate change in this millennium. As a result, food insecurity in Kenya is second only to South Sudan in Sub-Saharan Africa and has led to malnutrition in among children. 16% of households in Nasio’s catchment area are unable to meet their food needs through traditional agricultural activities and livestock rearing.
Despite being a fertile zone and Kenya’s food basket, Mumias West Sub County is reeling from the effects of climate change putting traditional agricultural livelihoods at risk.
