James Landale Swims The Bosphorus
July 2018

On Sunday July 22nd the incredible James Landale successfully swam the 6.5km stretch of water known as the Bosphorus. Effectively swimming between the continents of Europe and Asia!

He raised an amazing £10,000 and shared it between 3 charities – one of which was The Nasio Trust.

Massive thanks to James and congratulations on his amazing achievement.

Update here from James –

“So I have done it. I swam the 6.5km course down the Bosphorus on Sunday July 22 in one hour and 35 minutes. This was not fast, I was beaten handsomely by a man with one leg, but it got the job done. I did not have to be picked up by the coast guards for not breaching the two hour limit.

Thank you so much to everyone who has donated. We have met our target and hopefully that will help a few children who really need our support.”

Jiggers: A Preventable Crisis with Life-Changing Consequences

Jiggers are initially thought to come from Central and South America, the jigger parasite found its way to Africa, likely through human migration. Once it burrows into the skin – most commonly in the feet – it causes severe inflammation, ulceration, and unbearable itching.

Left untreated, the infection can escalate to tetanus, gangrene, or even the loss of limbs.
