Activity Report – Mud Hut Construction
July 2015

The construction started 9th of July 2015 with the carpenter laying the basic structures for the hut. After 2 days, volunteers from the UK, friends from Kakamega and staff from St. Irene were able to help by gathering water for the mud mixture, putting mud in the structures and carpentry works.

The mud hut of Mama Dancan was completed on the 15th of July 2015 with the official turnover of the key. During the turnover we have also given her new furniture, a mattress with blanket and food items which she was very pleased to have received. She said:

“I thank everyone who donated the money and those who helped in constructing the house. May God bless you!” Mama Dancan

“with the new house, it will be a start of something better… for many years since my husband brought me in this compound, my life has been difficult. At that time, my husband has another family which I did not know of. My husband was building a house for his other family but he never did it for me and my children. He finally realized that my family needs a house, but it was already too late since he became sick and he died without completing the house for me. For many years, Dancan and I were fine with the uncompleted house until the rainy season started in March 2015 in which my house had fallen. For 3 months, I have been living in a tiny house (2 x 3 sq.m) with Dancan and my chickens. I have shared my problem with Nasio Trust staff and they told me that they will try to find a way to help me. It was in June that they told me that there are people who are willing to support in building a new house. I thank everyone who donated the money and those who helped in constructing the house. May God bless you!”

Thank you for making Mama Dancan’s dream turn into reality. We only aimed to have a 12-Iron sheet house but with your generous support we were able to build a bigger and better house. It would not have been possible without all of you. ASANTE SANA!

Why the 2025 Budget Makes Charitable Giving More Important Than Ever

This year, as families across the UK consider giving, it’s worth thinking not only of generosity but also of opportunity.

With the 2025 Budget under the new Labour government, a number of fiscal changes have made the case for charitable donations — such as those to The Nasio Trust — stronger than ever.

Changes to the Kenyan Healthcare System Leaves Thousands At Risk

Kenya’s new Social Health Authority (SHA) was meant to expand access to free healthcare. For the communities Nasio serves, it is doing the opposite.

The transition from the National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) to SHA has introduced income-based premiums, digital registration, and phone-dependent systems that many families simply cannot access—particularly women, children, and the poorest households.
