Twenty four Kennington children are now published authors! Their stories were chosen by authors Julia Golding and Sylvia Vetta, and teachers Lesley Maskell and Paul Gamble to be published in Cosmic Cats – an anthology of work by children from Mumias School in West Kenya and St Swithun’s. The illustrator Korky Paul designed the cover and it’s being published by Oxford eBooks, a Kennington based company.

The schools launch will be on Wednesday 6 March ready for its release on Amazon and other platforms on World Book Day. On the same day there will also be a live zoom link with the children from Kenya.

We hope that many of our authors and parents can attend, when Korky Paul will give a twenty minute presentation.  We will then continue to the Village Centre, from 10.40am onwards, where children can display their artwork in room. There will be free refreshments for the children, including homemade cat biscuits. Our authors can then sign books in the foyer and enjoy making works of art to send to Kenya.

The books will be on sale for £8 each, and all profits will go to the Nasio Trust’s Library Appeal.

There will also be a public launch on Saturday 9 March from 10.00 a.m. at the Kennington Village Centre.

Eunice’s Story

My name is Eunice Juma and am 23 years old. I come from a small village called Buchirinya in Mumias Town.

I am a total orphan after the death of both my parents. My childhood wasn’t a good one because I had to be relocated every now and then to different relatives which means I had to change schools too that affected me in one way or the other but the good part of it is that I went through education despite all the challenges.
